Garment Technologist – High Street Fashion Retailer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Garment Technologist to join a well-established and successful high-street fashion retailer.
Working at the heart of the product development and production process, you will take ownership of product quality from initial development through to bulk production. Covering fit, sizing, sampling, fabric testing and production assessments, you will ensure products are safe, consistent, fit for purpose and delivered to the required quality standards.
The Role
As Garment Technologist, your key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of sample management and the fit process from initial development through to production, ensuring quality remains at the forefront throughout.
- Evaluating development and pre-production samples against original product specifications and approving manufacturing, performance and fit requirements for bulk production.
- Identifying, troubleshooting and resolving technical and quality issues throughout the production process, implementing effective solutions to maintain product standards.
- Ensuring consistency of sizing and fit across the product range, working closely with the wider Product team.
- Building strong relationships with factories and suppliers to ensure accurate specifications, consistent fit and timely sample delivery.
- Working cross-functionally with Buying, Merchandising, Retail, Customer Services and Warehouse teams to investigate and resolve quality issues and customer returns.
- Managing the critical path from proto sample through to bulk production in partnership with Product Development, Buying and Merchandising.
- Ensuring suppliers and manufacturing sites comply with company ethical and technical standards.
- Acting as a technical centre of excellence, keeping up to date with industry developments and sharing technical knowledge across the business.
- Technically auditing and approving proposed manufacturing units, recommending corrective action plans where required.
- Reviewing and managing in-season returns, using available reports and data to identify trends and drive improvements.

About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Previous Garment Technologist experience within the UK fashion retail market – essential.
- Proven experience working within a clothing or high-street fashion environment.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, production and quality management processes.
- Excellent understanding of fit, sizing, garment specifications and critical path management.
- Experience working directly with factories and suppliers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and confidence making technical decisions.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A commercial and data-led approach, with the ability to use information and customer insight to support decision-making.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills across internal teams and external suppliers.
- Experience using PLM software would be advantageous.
