Job Summary
The Gas Engineer / Plumber delivers high-quality gas and plumbing repairs across occupied and empty homes. The role includes servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and installations to domestic heating and plumbing systems, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and organisational standards.

Main Responsibilities
- Carry out annual gas services, landlord safety checks, and appliance testing in line with Gas Safety Regulations, including issuing the required compliance certificates.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain domestic boilers, heating systems, and associated components, including central heating systems, cookers, and hobs.
- Undertake plumbing repairs including pipework, sanitaryware, drainage, hot water systems, and cold-water storage tanks.
- Install, repair, and maintain vented and unvented cylinders, pumps, valves, TMVs, and modern water-heating technologies.
- Complete minor multi-trade tasks to support first-time fix and reduce disruption for residents, including bath frame installation and repair where required.
- Identify additional works and raise accurate follow-on tasks including materials required.
- Use mobile devices and digital systems to record work, materials, time, and compliance data.
- Communicate clearly with residents about the work required, timescales, and follow-up actions.
- Ensure homes are left clean, tidy, and safe after every visit.
- Support apprentices and trainees through on-site guidance and role modeling.
- Work collaboratively with planners, supervisors, stores, and colleagues to deliver an efficient service.
- Carry out emergency response duties as required, including responding to heating failures, water leaks, and other urgent domestic safety issues.
- Install, service, and maintain renewable and low-carbon heating and water technologies, including ASHPs, MVHR systems, and other modern heating technologies, where trained and competent.
- The post holder will be expected to be aware of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children and report any concerns via Ongo’s Safeguarding policies and procedures.

Skills, Competence, Experience Required
Essential
- ACS qualifications: CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1, CPA1 (or equivalent).
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Gas, Plumbing, or equivalent trade qualification.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Proven experience in domestic gas servicing, repairs, and maintenance, including annual servicing of boilers and appliances.
- Proven experience of plumbing repairs and installations in occupied and empty homes.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH, and safe working practices including carrying out dynamic risk assessments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Commitment to ongoing CPD and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulations and technologies.

Desirable
- G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification.
- Experience with renewable heating technologies (e.g., ASHP, MVHR).
- Experience installing or maintaining TMVs.
- Experience with cold-water storage tanks and associated installations.
- Experience working in social housing or high-volume domestic environments.
- Ability to use mobile apps and job management systems.
- Experience in out-of-hours or emergency response rotas.
