About us

At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role

As a Gas Quality Engineer, you'll provide specialist technical expertise that helps keep the UK's gas transmission network safe, compliant, and operating reliably. You'll shape how we monitor and manage gas quality across the network, while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy future.

Why this role matters

Everyday, National Gas relies on accurate gas quality data to ensure the gas transported through our network meets regulatory requirements, supports energy billing accuracy, and protects critical infrastructure. This role sits at the centre of that activity, providing expert guidance on gas quality systems, policies, and assets across the UK.

It's also an exciting time to join. As the energy system evolves, you'll help prepare our network for new energy vectors including hydrogen and carbon dioxide, influencing future asset strategies, innovation programmes, and major infrastructure projects that will shape the UK's energy future.

What you'll be doing

  • Collaborating with system integrators, suppliers, operations, and project delivery teams to provide expert advice on gas analyser systems, local odorisation systems, analytical techniques, gas composition, and gas processing
  • Providing gas quality expertise for customer connection projects, including the integration of biogas supplies into the National Transmission System
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry codes, standards, and National Gas policies, procedures, and specifications
  • Providing specialist technical support to operations teams to maintain and optimise gas analysis equipment performance and reliability
  • Supporting commercial and project activities through technical input into contracts, project scopes, tender events, and supplier evaluations
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, specifications, and industry standards
  • Identifying best practice and lessons learned, ensuring they're embedded into future gas transmission projects and engineering activities
  • Providing technical expertise that supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of critical gas transmission infrastructure across the UK

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
