Job Description

What We Do

At Goldman Sachs, quantitative strategists are the cutting edge of our businesses, solving real-world problems through a variety of analytical methods. Working in close collaboration with traders and sales, strats' invaluable quantitative perspectives on complex financial and technical challenges power our business decisions.

Within our Global Banking & Markets business, Commodities Strats sit on trading floors and provide value for both internal & external clients through cutting-edge models, predictive analytics, and high-quality trading tools. We are a dynamic, entrepreneurial team with a passion for the markets, with individuals who thrive in fast-paced, changing environments and are energized by a bustling trading floor.

While all trading desks at GS require strong quantitative skills, the Commodities desk is unique in that its products are at the centre of a changing world, where the environment, broader scientific R&D, geopolitics and global supply lines impact markets daily, and the pace of progress is rapid. Furthermore, we service the broadest range of clients; not just investors, but also commodity producers and consumers, seeking innovative and bespoke risk-management and financing solutions. This role will be an invaluable opportunity to sharpen all your skills and build a deep & broad foundation of product knowledge.

Who We Look For

We're looking for candidates with strong quantitative, programming, and communication skills with a keen interest in applying those skills in the financial markets. As a desk strat on our Commodities trading desk, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your quantitative acumen towards solving complex problems and creating innovative solutions for our clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
