Job Title: GCP Architect
6 month contract // Inside IR35 // Onsite London // Must have GCP experience
Job Description
This GCP Architect role supports a strategic cloud transformation programme that is migrating critical workloads onto a cloud-native Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure. You will act as the primary authority for architecture design and documentation, owning the production of the High Level Design Document (HLDD), driving governance approvals, and supporting the platform through Permit to Operate stages to General Availability. This is an output-driven contract position that requires deep GCP expertise and experience in complex, regulated environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end production of the GCP High Level Design Document (HLDD), covering network topology, landing zone architecture, identity and access management (IAM), data platform services, compute, security controls, and operational tooling.
- Act as the primary architecture design and documentation authority for the programme, ensuring all designs are robust, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Contribute to platform architecture design decisions in collaboration with platform engineers, enterprise architects, security teams, and risk stakeholders.
- Maintain and continuously update the Architecture Design Register, ensuring all design decisions, changes, and dependencies are clearly documented and traceable.
- Prepare structured submission packs for Architecture Review Boards and Design Authority forums, presenting and defending design proposals as required.
- Own the design workstream across all Permit to Operate gates, ensuring all architectural requirements and controls are clearly defined and evidenced.
- Produce and maintain detailed design diagrams and supporting artefacts to communicate architecture clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ensure all architecture documentation and governance evidence is complete, reviewed, and approved ahead of each programme milestone.
- Support the platform through the full lifecycle from initial design through governance approvals to General Availability, addressing design-related queries and risks.
- Produce a comprehensive General Availability readiness report, confirming that the platform design, controls, and documentation meet all required standards.
- Coordinate the handover of architecture artefacts and knowledge to operations teams at General Availability, ensuring a smooth transition into steady-state support.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
