Data Engineer | 6 Month Contract

📍 Sheffield | Hybrid, 2 days/week in office
💷 Circa £400/day | Inside IR35
🏦 Banking & Financial Services | Operational Resilience programme
📅 6 months | 1 position

We're recruiting a Data Engineer to join a major UK banking group's Operational Resilience programme, building the governed data foundations that underpin how the bank measures resilience, maps service dependencies, and tests scenario assumptions.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and operate data pipelines across sourcing, ingestion, transformation, modelling, and publishing
  • Build and maintain Data Products aligned to common patterns and standards, including data contracts, quality rules, and documentation
  • Partner with Data Architects and Technology teams to meet architecture, controls, and non-functional requirements
  • Implement data quality, lineage, and governance, supporting metadata capture and stewardship (e.g., Collibra)
  • Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models supporting KPIs, dashboards, and regulatory reporting
  • Own technical delivery for your Data Products, managing backlog, acceptance criteria, and stakeholder coordination

  • Demonstrable end-to-end data engineering delivery, sourcing through to publishing data assets
  • Strong SQL and relational data modelling
  • Hands-on Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery or equivalent
  • Strong Python with solid engineering practices: version control, testing, CI/CD
  • Experience with data governance, lineage, and metadata practices
  • Comfortable in Agile delivery using JIRA and Confluence

Nice to have

  • Exposure to Operational Resilience concepts or graph-based dependency/what-if analysis.
