Job Introduction

General Assistant

Location: Romford, RM6
Contract type: Permanent, Part-time
Working Pattern: 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm

What You’ll Do

As a General Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping us provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents. Working as part of our Supported and Temporary Housing service, you'll support the wider team by maintaining communal areas to a high standard and helping to create a positive experience for residents, visitors and partner organisations.

You'll be a visible presence within the service, taking pride in the environment and helping to ensure residents feel comfortable, respected and supported in their home. Through your work, you'll contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the service and help create communities where people can thrive.

How You’ll Do It

  • Clean communal areas including lounges, hallways, staircases, lifts, communal toilets and bathrooms to the required standard.
  • Support colleagues in maintaining a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for residents.
  • Be aware of residents' wellbeing and safety, reporting concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Respond professionally to resident concerns and escalate issues in line with policies and procedures.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including the safe use of cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Report health and safety issues and concerns relating to the condition of the building.
  • Where applicable, support catering teams by helping to maintain clean kitchens and dining areas and assisting with meal service arrangements.
  • Organise your workload effectively, maintain accurate records where required and use resources responsibly.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive response during emergencies or service incidents.

Essential:

  • Ability to organise and prioritise your workload, completing work consistently to the required standard.

  • Experience of working effectively using your own initiative.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Desirable:

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
