General Catering Assistants
We are looking for reliable, enthusiastic and customer-focused General Catering Assistants to join our friendly and committed catering team on a temporary, part-time basis.
Working in the beautiful surroundings of Newbattle Abbey, you’ll play an important role in delivering a high-quality catering and hospitality service to our students, staff, corporate guests, visitors and international partners.

Location: Newbattle Abbey College, Dalkeith, EH22 3LL.
Contract: Temporary, part-time, until the end of December 2026.
Hours and Salary
- 25 hours per week, including weekends
- £18,336 per annum (£25,670 FTE)
OR
- 20 hours per week, including weekends
- £14,669 per annum (£25,670 FTE)
Working pattern: Evening and weekend work will be required.

About The Role
Reporting to the Catering Manager / Catering Supervisor, you will support the day-to-day delivery of catering and hospitality services across the College.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Providing excellent customer service
- Food and beverage service, including buffet and table service
- Preparing packed lunches, salads and other food items
- Setting up dining and hospitality areas for service
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and health and safety
- Supporting catering services for corporate guests and functions
- Recording cash and card sales
- Working closely with the kitchen and catering team to ensure smooth and efficient service

What we're looking for
You Will Ideally Have
- Experience in hospitality
- Knowledge of food safety and record keeping
- Awareness of allergies and dietary requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to use your own initiative and prioritise your workload
- A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
