Senior Legal Leadership Opportunity within a Global Membership Organisation
General Counsel, Legal Affairs
Central London | Permanent
£126,108 per annum plus benefits
Full-time (35 hours per week)
We're working alongside a prestigious international membership organisation based in central London, whose members include national governments from across the world. Sitting at the intersection of diplomacy, governance, and international law, the organisation is now looking for a General Counsel to lead its Legal Affairs function and act as senior legal counsel at the highest level of the institution.
It's a genuinely rare opportunity. You'll advise directly at Board and executive level, help shape institutional strategy, and represent the organisation in international settings, all while leading a multinational legal team and holding responsibility for a broad and demanding legal portfolio.
What the Role Involves
- Leading the organisation's approach to dispute resolution and litigation, including representing it before its arbitral tribunal
- Advising the Senior Management Committee on corporate governance, international organisation law, and contractual matters
- Managing a multinational legal team, along with the external legal advice budget
- Advising on the legal side of HR policy, including recruitment, grievances, and disciplinary matters
- Overseeing the legal aspects of procurement, financial management, and change management
- Advising on the privileges and immunities of the organisation and its staff, both in the UK and internationally
- Making sure international contracts and supply agreements meet the relevant compliance standards
- Representing the organisation at governmental and international meetings and events

What We're Looking For
- A qualifying law degree, plus a postgraduate qualification in Law or Public International Law
- Demonstrable post-qualification experience providing legal advice at a senior level, including meaningful time in senior management
- A solid track record across corporate governance, international administrative law, litigation, HR, and contractual matters
- Experience reviewing complex agreements, such as grant agreements, MOUs, and commercial contracts
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with real public diplomacy experience
- Comfort operating in multicultural, international settings
- Prior experience within an international organisation would be a strong advantage
