General Counsel (Global)
London | Hybrid | International Travel | Up to £145,000 + Benefits
This is the number one Legal role for the Group.
And sector experience matters.
We’re looking for someone who has operated in a project-led, operational environment such as engineering, construction, infrastructure, telecoms, utilities, energy, industrial services or similar.
This is a business where people are out on sites delivering complex projects and long-term service contracts for major customers.
You’ll work closely with Regional MDs, Project Directors, Site Managers, clients, the Group CFO and Board, getting involved in everything from major contract negotiations and project risk through to disputes, M&A and international growth.
We’re working with a rapidly growing, PE-backed international engineering and project services group with a great culture, brilliant people and lots happening.
This is broad, commercial and very hands-on.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you’ll lead a team of five legal professionals across Europe and take overall responsibility for Legal across the Group.
You’ll:
- Lead and develop the Group Legal function internationally
- Own and negotiate complex project, service, framework and long-term customer contracts
- Work alongside operational teams on project delivery, contractual risk, variations, claims and disputes
- Partner with Regional MDs, Project Directors and Site Managers to solve commercial and contractual issues
- Negotiate directly with major clients and strategic partners
- Advise the Board and Executive Team on commercial, strategic and legal matters
- Support acquisitions, due diligence, integrations and wider corporate projects
- Lead governance, compliance, legal risk and company secretarial matters
- Manage external legal relationships across multiple jurisdictions
- Use AI, automation and technology to build a smarter and more efficient legal function

About You
You’ll be a qualified solicitor currently operating as a General Counsel, Head of Legal or senior in-house legal leader.
Most importantly, you’ll understand what happens when a contract moves from a document to something that actually needs to be delivered on the ground.
We need someone with experience in engineering, construction, infrastructure, telecoms, utilities, energy, industrial services or another genuinely project-led environment.

Someone coming purely from private practice, financial services or a predominantly office-based corporate environment is unlikely to have the operational experience needed for this role.
You’ll be commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable getting into the detail.
You’ll know when to challenge, when to protect the business and when to find a sensible commercial solution that keeps a project moving.
Experience within a PE-backed, international or high-growth business would be a big advantage.
