- Provide legal and statutory advice to the Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer, EST and the Chair and Board of Trustees in relation to legal issues and the development of policies and procedures
- Ensure the firm is compliant with all relevant legal, statutory, and regulatory responsibilities; and keep up-to-date with all relevant areas of the law and provide legal advice advising in relation to other regulatory issues such as safeguarding, complaints, money laundering, gambling commission
- Lead the Legal Team ensuring the skills and capabilities are developed within the team to meet the demands placed on the team by the organisation and foster a partnership approach with the organisation to ensure that needs and expectations are understood and met when providing legal advice
- Be an active member of the FLA Leadership Team, promoting the agreed strategy and delivering improvements in employee engagement and enablement
- Through close partnering with the organisation and with Procurement, to provide guidance on contracts and contract management to ensure that the interests of the organisation are safeguarded and key risks are identified, understood and addressed
- Develop policies and procedures or to liaise with other departments to develop such policies to ensure that the business fulfils its legal and statutory requirements
- Provide guidance, tools and training to support best practice and assist the organisation in becoming more legally aware and drive compliance
- Collaborate with the Head of Information Governance to develop policies and procedures with the support of your team to ensure Macmillan complies with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulations
- Manage relationships with external suppliers particularly when handling disputes on behalf of the business, working with external advisers ensuring high quality outputs and good value for money
- Plan, manage and report on the department’s annual plan and budget as part of the planning process. This will also require a macro and micro understanding of wider business plans to ensure that legal and governance are engaged at the right time to support stakeholders
- Become familiar with and work within the companies policies and procedures. This includes demonstrating the effective behaviours for a leader at the firm
