FOUNDING FELLOW — AI GOVERNANCE & LEGAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Norven · London · Founding cohort · Remunerated per engagement

Norven provides independent, named judgement on whether a consequential AI decision was defensible. Each opinion is signed by a senior practitioner and is written to stand in the file a board, a regulator or a court will later examine. It is not certification and it is not legal advice. Civilian applications only.

Norven is convening a small founding cohort of legal Fellows. Fellows are current or former General Counsel of significant regulated institutions, senior partners with a record of board-level advice, King's Counsel, and former senior regulators. Their common qualification is that boards and institutions already seek their judgement when the stakes are highest.

The work

Fellows personally scope, assess and discuss the matters they take on. A matter may concern the governance and accountability arrangements around an AI deployment; the evidence and reasoning behind a significant decision; or questions arising from regulatory scrutiny, an incident or a dispute. The Fellow discusses conclusions directly with the board, General Counsel or risk leadership, and produces a written opinion that states its scope, its limits, and any further evidence required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Fellows are engaged on matters that require their attention and experience. There is no bench beneath them. The value of the Fellowship rests on each practitioner's own contribution.

Who we would like to hear from

Practitioners with personal responsibility for significant advice, sound judgement under uncertainty, and the ability to lead a focused discussion with senior clients. Relevant specialisms include corporate governance, regulatory accountability, investigations, disputes, and technology and data law. Experience of matters later tested by a regulator, claimant or court is particularly relevant. Financial services experience is welcome; so is experience in other sectors where AI decisions carry serious consequences. An AI title is not required.

Engagement

Fellowship is designed to sit alongside an established practice, executive role, portfolio or board career. Fellows are remunerated per engagement at a level commensurate with the consequence of the decision — never salaried, never on retainer, never by the hour. Fellows hold no equity in Norven and no interest in the outcome of any opinion. An opinion is only independent if the person giving it does not depend on the next one.

Every appointment is individually gated: conflict clearance on each engagement, independent quality review before anything is signed, and a professional-indemnity and reliance architecture being settled with specialist counsel and Lloyd's-market advisers. Nothing is signed until those gates pass. A reasoned decline is a first-class outcome, and the fee is identical either way.

Expressing interest

Apply with your CV or professional profile and a short note on the client problem you are best placed to address, with a brief anonymised example of a consequential matter you personally advised on and how your judgement was tested. Do not disclose confidential information. Applications are read personally by the Founder and treated in confidence. Where there is a strong fit, you will be contacted directly to arrange a discreet conversation.
