Trant Engineering is a leading EPC contractor with a strong reputation for delivering innovative engineering solutions across the UK and internationally.

Due to continued success in the sector we are looking to appoint a General Foreman with proven experience delivering National Grid projects. This fantastic opportunity will enable the successful candidate to develop a long term career with the organisation.

As the General Foreman you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of site operations and is required to coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and materials, while maintaining strong communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Be Doing

Technical Responsibilities - Site Supervision

  • Direct, supervise, and motivate site teams, including skilled operatives and subcontractors.
  • Allocate work efficiently to meet project schedules and milestones.
  • Mentor and develop site personnel to enhance team performance and capabilities.
  • Coordinate materials, plant, and equipment.
  • Liaise with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of resources.
  • Manage subcontractors, ensuring performance and compliance with contracts.

Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all site operations comply with UK health & safety legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and site safety inspections.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and enforce environmental protection measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily site activities, inspections, and handovers.
  • Verify work meets contractual, technical, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in inspections and audits by clients, consultants, or regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor progress, quality, and productivity, reporting deviations and recommending corrective actions.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Practical site-based civil engineering experience, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, and structures
  • Experience reading and interpreting civil engineering drawings, specifications, and method statements
  • Experience coordinating and supervising subcontractors and site teams
  • Experience in energy or other large infrastructure projects
  • Experience working to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards on site

Desirable

  • Familiarity with National Grid policies and procedures.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Experience in energy or other large infrastructure projects
  • Experience liaising with clients, regulators, or third-party inspectors
  • Experience mentoring site staff
