General Foreman – Highways & Civil Engineering
Bristol | Permanent | Full Time
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Foreman to join an established civil engineering contractor delivering a major highways scheme in the Bristol area.
This is a key site-based position, taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of works and ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards and in line with programme.
The project involves a varied package of highways and civil engineering works, including drainage, carriageway works, junction improvements and traffic management within a busy live environment.
The Role
As General Foreman, you will work closely with the project management and engineering teams and take responsibility for the coordination of site activities across your section of works.

Responsibilities
- Managing and coordinating daily site operations
- Leading site teams, direct labour and subcontractors
- Planning labour, plant, materials and other resources
- Working to short-term programmes and project milestones
- Coordinating works within a live highways environment
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements
- Monitoring quality and productivity
- Ensuring works are completed in accordance with method statements
- Maintaining accurate site records, reports and diaries
- Identifying potential issues and resolving them before they impact programme
- Working closely with engineers and the wider project team
About You
We’re looking for an experienced General Foreman, Senior Foreman or Works Manager with a strong background in civil engineering.

You will ideally have:
- Previous experience delivering highways or major civil engineering projects
- Experience across roads, drainage and associated infrastructure works
- Strong site leadership and people-management skills
- Experience managing subcontractors and site resources
- Good knowledge of health, safety and quality requirements
- The ability to work effectively within busy and logistically challenging environments
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach
