Job Description
General Labourer
Property Services | Squared Housing Association | Company Vehicle Provided
Hours
30 hours per week (over 4 or 5 days a week)
Salary
£16,926 to £19,827 per annum

Luton and Surrounding Areas

About The Team
Our Property Services team looks after around 700 properties, including homes, hostels, and office premises. We work closely with in-house colleagues and trusted local contractors, collaborating across departments to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service.

General Labouring Duties
- Assist multi-skilled tradespeople with repairs, maintenance, and improvement works.
- Support the delivery and collection of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Prepare work areas and ensure sites are safe, clean, and organised.
- Load and unload vehicles, materials, and equipment.
Estate and Grounds Maintenance Support
- Assist gardeners with grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter picking, and general grounds maintenance.
- Help maintain communal outdoor areas to a high standard.
- Support seasonal works such as leaf clearance and gritting during winter months.
Clearance Support
- Assist clearance in empty homes within flats, hostels, HMOs, and other Housing Association properties.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and stored correctly.
Health and Safety
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards, accidents, defects, and unsafe working practices immediately.
Customer Service
- Represent the Housing Association professionally when interacting with tenants, residents, contractors, and members of the public.
- Demonstrate a positive, respectful, and helpful attitude at all times.

Learning and Development
This Role Provides An Excellent Opportunity To
- Learn practical skills from experienced multi-trades operatives.
- Gain exposure to carpentry, plumbing, painting, grounds maintenance, cleaning, and general property maintenance.
- Develop knowledge of housing repairs and property services.
- Work towards vocational qualifications and apprenticeships where available.

Person Specification
Essential
- Previous labouring, maintenance, or grounds maintenance experience.
- Willingness to learn new skills and trades.
- Good work ethic and reliable attendance.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to carry out physical work safely.
- Understanding of the importance of health and safety.
- Interest in developing a career within property maintenance
Desirable Not Essential
- Full UK Driving License.
- Interest in developing a career within property maintenance
This position is ideal for someone looking to start a career in property maintenance and gain hands-on experience across a range of trades within a Housing Association environment.
