We're Hiring: General Manager | Mercure Dumfries

This isn’t a traditional General Manager role. Operating under a government contract, Mercure Dumfries is a unique environment where strong leadership, operational excellence and genuine care for people come together.
As General Manager, you’ll:
- Lead the hotel through an important chapter, ensuring it operates safely, compliantly and effectively while creating a positive environment for both colleagues and service users.
- Take overall responsibility for the operation, leading your team across reception, housekeeping, catering and facilities, while building strong relationships with government partners, local stakeholders and the wider Splendid team.
- Help shape the hotel’s future — developing your people, strengthening standards and processes, and preparing the property for a successful return to full commercial trading when the time is right.

🏨 About Mercure Dumfries
Mercure Dumfries is a distinctive 62-room, four-star hotel located close to Dumfries, combining two very different properties: an early-to-mid-19th-century domestic house and a later 20th-century extension.
With its own character, history and unique position within the local community, this is a hotel with a story to tell — and an exciting future to help shape.

🔍 The Role
You’ll:
- Lead the day-to-day operation across reception, housekeeping, catering and facilities, ensuring safe, consistent and compliant standards.
- Inspire, develop and support your team, creating a positive and inclusive culture.
- Take ownership of hotel budgets, financial performance, purchasing and inventory.
- Build trusted relationships with government contract partners, local authorities and community stakeholders.
- Ensure contractual, regulatory, health & safety and operational requirements are consistently met.
- Work collaboratively with regional and wider hospitality teams to share best practice and improve performance.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen processes, standards and ways of working.
- Play a key role in preparing the hotel for its eventual return to full commercial trading.
👤 About You
You’ll bring:
- Previous experience as a General Manager or senior operational leader within hospitality or another customer-focused environment.
- A proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong operational, financial and commercial awareness.
- Experience managing budgets, compliance, health & safety and performance.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A calm, resilient and adaptable leadership style.
- The confidence to navigate change and manage competing priorities.
- A genuine passion for people, creating an inclusive culture and delivering high standards.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
- Ideally, you’ll live within a commutable distance of the hotel or be willing to relocate.
- (Temporary hotel accommodation may be considered initially to support your move where required).
