Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm

About The Role…

The General Manager provides effective leadership and operational direction across the business, with overall responsibility for the day-to-day management, performance and development of operational employees, including trainees, engineers and managers, together with interim oversight of the Sales and Tendering team. As the principal link between the RJPN Senior Leadership Team and the frontline workforce, the role ensures clear communication, consistent application of people-management processes and coordinated support for departmental leaders. Accountable for translating strategic priorities into practical operational plans, driving continuous improvement and successfully delivering designated internal projects.

As General Manager you will…

  • Provide effective day-to-day leadership, direction and support to engineers and managers within the role’s reporting structure, ensuring clear accountability and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Manage employee performance and development through the consistent and timely application of people-management processes, including timesheets, expenses, personal development plans, annual appraisals, six-month reviews, performance improvement plans, remuneration evidence gathering, annual leave and return-to-work meetings.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication between operational employees, departmental leaders and the Senior Leadership Team, while promoting engagement, positive team morale and employee wellbeing through appropriate support and regular check-ins.
  • Use appraisal and personal development plan outcomes to identify, prioritise and address mandatory and developmental training needs across the operational workforce, working collaboratively with the Engineering Manager and Learning and Development owner within the wider company.
  • Coordinate the training-booking process, ensuring that approved courses are accurately reflected in the scheduler and that appropriate operational cover is maintained.
  • Communicate training decisions clearly and promptly to employees and relevant managers, confirming approved development aligned with personal development plans and providing appropriate feedback where requests are not progressed.
  • Lead and deliver designated internal projects in response to business priorities, with scope, objectives and success measures agreed on a case-by-case basis with the relevant senior leader.

About You…

  • CIPD Level 5 or above / equivalent in people management.
  • Quality / Compliance Training.
  • Proven experience within the Electrical / utility industry within a managerial role with responsibility for staff.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and team-development capability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and ability to learn other bespoke software platforms.
  • Strong decision making with a risk management approach balancing the aspirations of individuals with the needs of the business.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Training & Development Skills/ Training (desirable).
