Job Description
To lead for a 12-month period, achieve the Company's budgeted financial and operational results, strengthen business performance and develop an identified successor who is ready to assume greater leadership responsibility at the end of the contract.
Key Responsibilities
Financial and Commercial Performance
- Take full accountability for achieving agreed revenue, margin, profitability and cash targets.
- Turn the annual budget into clear departmental targets and monitor results, forecasts and variances.
- Take prompt corrective action where performance is behind plan and maintain control of labour, overtime, purchasing, stock and waste.
- Work with the sales team to improve the pipeline, quoting discipline, customer retention and profitable order conversion.
Operational Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day business and ensure safe, efficient and consistent delivery across production and support functions.
- Improve productivity, capacity, workflow, quality, on-time delivery and customer service.
- Set clear expectations for managers and employees and hold people accountable for agreed standards and results.
- Provide accurate and timely performance reports, forecasts and recommendations to the Group leadership team.
Succession and People Development
- Coach and mentor the identified successor in commercial, financial, operational and people-management responsibilities.
- Agree a structured development plan with clear milestones, regular reviews and a gradual transfer of appropriate responsibilities.
- Develop the wider management team and complete a thorough handover before the contract ends.

Health, Safety and Compliance
- Provide visible health and safety leadership and ensure safe working practices are consistently followed.
- Work with Group support to maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work, training and statutory records.
- Ensure incidents, near misses, unsafe behaviour and compliance concerns are investigated and addressed promptly.
Systems and Management Information
- Ensure job, labour, material, cost and delivery information is accurate, timely and used effectively.
- Use management systems to support planning and decisions; previous MIE Trak experience is advantageous.
Detailed objectives will be agreed at the start of the contract and reviewed regularly. Measures will include:
- Achievement of the agreed budgeted financial results.
- Improved productivity, quality, delivery and operational control.
- Reliable forecasting, reporting and completion of agreed improvement actions.
- Measurable development and readiness of the identified successor.
- Effective health and safety leadership and timely closure of corrective actions.
Person Specification
Essential
- Substantial senior leadership experience successfully running a similar engineering, manufacturing, metal-processing or fabrication business.
- A proven record of achieving budgeted revenue, margin, profitability and operational targets.
- Strong commercial and financial knowledge, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and management reporting.
- Demonstrable experience of improving manufacturing productivity, quality and delivery.
- Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, including developing a successor or senior management team.
- Practical health and safety knowledge gained within a manufacturing environment.
- The credibility and resilience to lead change, solve problems and hold others accountable.

Desirable
- Experience in laser cutting, sheet-metal processing, precision engineering or a closely related sector.
- Previous experience using MIE Trak or a comparable manufacturing ERP/MRP system.
- A relevant management, engineering, manufacturing or health and safety qualification.
Performance Bonus
An end-of-contract performance bonus may be payable where the agreed written objectives have been achieved. The objectives, value and assessment arrangements will be confirmed separately in writing and payment will be subject to the applicable bonus terms and the Company's final assessment.
