Role Summary

The General Manager (GM) leads the day-to-day running of Dalston Superstore. The GM is responsible for service standards, team culture, operational delivery, and venue-wide coordination. The role includes managing the Assistant General Manager (AGM) and Duty Managers, supporting team wellbeing, and working closely with the venue owners and HR Manager on rota, compliance, and business planning. The GM is also the final decision-maker on shift, and the first point of contact for urgent or serious matters relating to the venue.

Contracted Hours

35+ hours per week, plus overtime as required

Pay

£22.50 to £23.50+ per hour (inc. tronc)

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 1 year of experience in a senior management role in a bar, club, or similar venue (essential)
  • Experience using digital tools for communication and scheduling (essential)
  • Personal Alcohol Licence (essential)
  • Current certification in Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency First Aid, Allergen Awareness, and Food Hygiene (preferred)

Working Hours & Environment

Shifts include both daytime admin shifts as well as weekend, evening, and late-night service shifts as required. Service shifts take place across two floors in a loud, low-lit, fast-paced venue. The role involves being on your feet for long periods.

Scope of Role (Key Responsibilities)

Stock & Financials

  • Oversee AGM and DM ordering of stock and sundry items, maintain efficient par levels, ensure stock is accounted for, and revenue capture is maximized
  • Monitor staff drinks, wastage, and discounts, ensuring they are recorded properly and responsibly
  • Be responsible for the security and management of stock items on shift
  • Manage periodic Ruckus stocktake, collate delivery notes, and troubleshoot discrepancies and variances
  • Ensure the menu serves are in line with contracts, trends, and remain exciting and relevant
  • Ensure the upload and approval of operational invoices to deadline
  • Ensure all receipts/invoices are uploaded to venue expense accounts
  • Meet and maintain KPIs with wage percentage, drinks margins, and conversion
  • Maintain and update ePOS with all product/recipe or price changes

Teams, Service & Communications

  • Guide the AGM on rota planning and management, ensuring adequate staffing, accurate records, and effective handling of holidays, absence, and timekeeping
  • Effectively delegate responsibilities and maximize efficiency of the team on shift
  • Maintain a fun, safe atmosphere for team members and customers
  • Diffuse and deescalate customer complaints or conflicts between customers and team members, following our safety and security protocols when necessary
  • Provide documented training to all staff with respect to their roles and responsibilities
  • Assist with the recruitment, appraisals, reviews, and disciplinary procedures of team members with HR
  • Oversee both the cloakroom and door rota for freelancers and making sure they have the correct invoicing procedures
  • Ensure high standards of drink quality and customer service are consistently delivered
  • Understand, uphold, and support all Company Policies and Procedures

Health, Safety & Legal Compliance

  • Follow up on incident reports, escalating as appropriate
  • Keep all venue risk assessments up to date and ensure compliance with health and safety law
  • Ensure bar and audio equipment are used safely and properly on shift, reporting any issues to venue owners or arranging collection from sound services where appropriate
  • Understand counter terrorism procedures and monitor the safety and security of the venue
  • Ensure compliance with all conditions on the premises license, including record keeping on shift
  • Liaise with all responsible authorities where necessary: police, fire, environmental health, licensing in the event of a visit or call-out
  • Open and close down the premises securely and efficiently
  • Uphold data protection and confidentiality policies
