VACANCY CDI GENERAL MANAGER
CDI is seeking a General Manager to join its dynamic team. The position of “General Manager” will become available as part of a planned succession process.
The “Stichting Chemical Distribution Institute” (CDI) https://www.cdim.org is a non-profit making and non-commercial Institute, funded by the chemical industry. CDI’s core membership currently consists of 58 international Chemical Companies. CDI is responsible for the accreditation of inspectors and auditors to provide inspection and audit reports for use in the risk assessment process. CDI online databases provide the facility to create, edit and interpolate the inspection and audit reports on a 24/7 global basis. CDI is a Dutch foundation operating from offices in the UK. The Foundation conducts its activities entirely within EU competition and US anti-trust law.
CDI currently operates 2 primary inspection schemes.
1994, CDI-Marine
CDI-M was created by the chemical industry to improve the safety and quality performance of marine transportation in the chemical and gas supply chain. Today CDI-Marine conducts inspections of Bulk liquid Chemical tankers, LNG, LPG & LCO2 tankers, Product tankers and Dry Bulk carriers.
1997, CDI-Terminals
The CDI-T scheme was developed in 1997 and like the Marine scheme; its purpose is to improve the safety and quality performance of bulk liquid storage terminals.
The General Manager will report directly to and be accountable to the CDI Board of Directors for the management, administration, and development of the Institute’s activities, ensuring that its objectives are achieved in a cost-effective manner and in compliance with the Institute’s statutes and operating procedures.

The successful candidate must be capable of working independently while leading a small, dynamic, and active team, ensuring the effective, efficient, and safe day-to-day operation of CDI. They will also be responsible for reporting to the Board and Scheme Executive Boards on work undertaken, performance against targets, and the achievement of agreed deliverables within specified timeframes.
In addition, to holding the title of General Manager, the successful candidate will also hold the position of “Company Secretary” and must comply with the Institutes Statutes and consequential registration and governance requirements for that role.
Candidates must possess exceptional leadership abilities that inspire and engage, be stakeholder focussed and results driven; this will be a challenging but rewarding permanent position with a unique opportunity to influence the safety and quality performance of the industry.
Whilst CDI is a Dutch company registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce; CDI operates solely from the UK and is also registered with UK Companies House as an Overseas Company. The principal place of work will be a home office but in conjunction with the head office in Surrey U.K. CDI can consider applicants being based outside of the UK, provided they hold a valid right to work in the UK.
Applicants must meet the following competencies and experience.
Qualifications.
- Class 1 Master Mariner/STCW Master 2/II, or equivalent degree qualification.
- 2 years’ experience as Master in Command or equivalent management position.
- Proven leadership experience at senior management level within the industry.
- Certified Lead Auditor qualification is essential.

Skills & Experience.
- Extensive knowledge of international regulations, recognised industry practices and operations of
- Marine Bulk Chemical vessels,
- LPG vessels, and
- Bulk Liquid Terminals.
- Working knowledge of international regulations, recognised industry practices in
- Dangerous goods carried in Marine Packed Cargo transportation.
- Dry Bulk and LNG vessels operations.
- Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems, (Preferably ISO 9001/2015).
- Full computer literacy in Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and PDF software.
- Advance digital skills including clear familiarity with, and the use of, MS Teams, One Drive and Share Point.
- An above average understanding of database creation, day to day database functionality, use and requirements.
- Experience in chairing meetings.
- Experience of producing and controlling annual operating budgets.
- Preferably have previous “Not for Profit” Association secretariat experience.
- Demonstrate excellent project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate the ability of working with differing points of view, but able to achieve a common consensus and resolution.
- General experience of company accounting software systems, pay role systems, company pension schemes and corporate insurance requirements.
- Fluent in the use of English both written and spoken.
