Planet Ice is Europe’s leading provider of ice skating experiences, operating 14 rinks across the UK. The company offers public ice skating sessions, private hire, group bookings, and themed events. Planet Ice also delivers “Out of this World” birthday parties, Learn to Skate programs, and ice hockey courses for all ages and skill levels. Team members work in a lively, customer-focused environment that combines sport, leisure, and entertainment.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site General Manager role based at the Planet Ice rink in Coventry. The General Manager oversees day-to-day operations of the rink, including staffing, scheduling, and ensuring a safe, well-maintained facility.
Responsibilities
- Managing budgets
- Monitoring financial performance
- Implementing initiatives to drive revenue and customer satisfaction across public skating, courses, parties, and events
- Leading and mentoring the on-site team
- Coordinating with central support functions
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
- Representing the venue in the local community, building relationships that support marketing, partnerships, and repeat business

- Proven experience in venue, leisure, hospitality, or retail management, with responsibility for operations, staff supervision, and customer service.
- Strong leadership skills, including team development, performance management, and the ability to foster an inclusive, safety-focused culture.
- Solid financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and using KPIs to drive operational and revenue improvements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle customer inquiries, resolve issues, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Organizational and problem-solving abilities, including experience managing complex schedules, events, and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort with basic IT systems and point-of-sale platforms; experience with booking or ticketing systems is an advantage.
- Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, and risk management practices in leisure or sports facilities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by rink operations.
- Experience in ice sports or leisure events is beneficial but not essential; a genuine interest in delivering memorable customer experiences is highly valued.
- Relevant qualification in business, leisure management, hospitality, or a related field is an advantage.
