We're seeking an experienced General Manager to lead operations at a large, dedicated site serving one of our key retail clients on a contract basis.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on, commercially astute General Manager to take full operational ownership of a large-scale dedicated retail account. This is a contract position suited to an experienced logistics leader who can step in quickly, stabilise and drive performance, and manage a sizeable, multi-shift workforce while acting as the primary point of contact for a major retail client.
You'll be responsible for the full P&L, operational performance, and client relationship for the site, ensuring service levels, safety standards, and cost targets are consistently met or exceeded.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end operational performance of the dedicated facility, including inbound, outbound, inventory management, and fulfilment
- Act as the senior on-site point of contact for the retail client, building a strong, trusted relationship and managing day-to-day expectations
- Lead, motivate, and develop a large multi-shift workforce (150+ employees), including shift managers and team leaders
- Own the site P&L, managing budgets, labour costs, and operational spend against targets
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, accuracy, and cost efficiency
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations and company policy across the site
- Monitor and report on KPIs (SLA adherence, throughput, accuracy, cost-per-unit, etc.) to both Swi-tch leadership and the client
- Manage peak trading periods and seasonal volume fluctuations, ensuring the site scales effectively
- Identify and resolve operational risks before they impact service delivery
- Support recruitment, workforce planning, and succession planning for key site roles

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
