General Manager. Lead the Hotel. Elevate the Experience. Shape What Comes Next.
A Destination Hotel. A Significant Leadership Opportunity.
Some General Manager roles are about keeping a successful operation moving. This one offers the opportunity to influence what comes next.
Alinea Talent is exclusively partnering with an established privately owned hospitality group on the appointment of a General Manager for a significant destination hotel in the North of England.
This is a complex, multi-revenue-stream operation with strong foundations, a distinctive guest proposition, and significant opportunity ahead.
We're looking for an experienced hotel leader who can take ownership of the operation, build on its existing strengths, and bring together people, guest experience, and commercial performance. Someone who understands that exceptional hotels aren't created from behind a desk. They're built through visible leadership, strong teams, commercial curiosity, and an obsession with the details that guests remember.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior group leadership, the General Manager will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and performance of the hotel, leading the senior management team, Heads of Department, and wider operation. The role carries accountability across the full hotel operation, including rooms, food & beverage, spa, meetings and events, alongside responsibility for financial performance, people leadership, guest experience, and operational standards. You'll have the support and infrastructure of an established hotel group while retaining the autonomy and accountability to lead the property. The opportunity is to understand where the hotel is today, identify where the greatest potential exists, and translate that into measurable, sustainable performance.
The Environment
This is a substantial destination hotel operating across multiple departments, guest experiences, and revenue streams. It requires a General Manager who is equally comfortable discussing commercial strategy and financial performance as they are walking the operation, engaging with guests, and developing their leadership team. The successful individual will inherit an established business with the opportunity to influence its continued evolution. It's a role for someone who enjoys complexity, ownership, and the challenge of bringing every part of a hotel together around a clear direction.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Culture & People
The strength of any hotel ultimately comes down to its people. A major priority will be building a strong, accountable, and connected leadership team, creating an environment where managers genuinely own the performance of their departments.
- Lead visibly and set the tone for the hotel
- Build a strong and accountable senior leadership team
- Set clear expectations and empower Heads of Department to own performance
- Identify, coach, and develop future talent
- Strengthen succession and internal progression
- Create clear and consistent communication across the operation
- Build a culture where colleagues feel supported, valued, and motivated
- Create greater ownership and accountability throughout the hotel
The Commercial Opportunity
This is a significant commercial leadership role. The General Manager will take overall accountability for delivering budget and financial targets while continually identifying opportunities to maximize revenue and profitability. You'll have oversight across multiple revenue streams including bedrooms, food & beverage, spa, meetings, and events.
That means understanding the detail:
- Revenue
- Labour
- Gross profit
- Forecasting
- Market demand
- Business on the books
- Guest behaviour
- Competitor activity
And then turning that insight into action. We're looking for someone who doesn't simply report performance but actively influences it.
The Leadership Impact
Success will come from creating alignment between people, performance, and experience. Within the first 12 months, the General Manager will be expected to:
- Build a strong and accountable hotel leadership team
- Strengthen commercial performance and profitability
- Maximise opportunities across multiple revenue streams
- Ensure labour and operational costs are actively managed
- Elevate consistency across service and operational standards
- Use guest insight and feedback to continually improve the experience
- Develop talent and strengthen succession across the hotel
- Create greater ownership throughout the operation
- Establish a clear plan for continued growth and development
What Success Looks Like
Twelve months from now, the hotel is performing strongly across the measures that matter. Commercial performance is moving in the right direction. The leadership team understands the numbers and owns its departmental performance. Colleagues feel supported, challenged, and motivated to deliver at their best. Guest feedback isn't simply monitored; it's actively influencing how the experience evolves. Revenue opportunities are being identified and pursued across the business. Standards are consistent. Talent is developing. Accountability is clear. And at the centre of it is a General Manager who understands the entire hotel, from the P&L to the guest journey, and has created genuine momentum around what comes next.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
There are General Manager roles where the parameters are already defined. And there are opportunities where an experienced leader can genuinely influence the next chapter. This role offers the complexity and breadth of a significant destination hotel, the backing of an established privately owned hospitality group, and the opportunity to make a visible impact across people, guest experience, and commercial performance. For a General Manager who enjoys ownership, autonomy, and being close enough to the operation to see the impact of their leadership, this is a compelling next step.
