General Manager – New Hospitality Venue Opening
Location: Dundee

About the Opportunity
Spencer Recruitment is partnering with an established and growing hospitality business to appoint a General Manager for the opening of an exciting new venue in Dundee. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hospitality leader to take ownership of a flagship opening, from the initial pre-opening phase through to launch and long-term commercial success.
Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will recruit and develop the opening team, establish strong operational standards, and create a venue that becomes a recognized destination within the local community.
The Role
As General Manager, you will take full responsibility for the successful opening and ongoing performance of the venue. You will be involved before opening day, helping to build the team, establish the operating culture, and ensure the venue is ready to deliver an exceptional customer experience from launch.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the pre-opening phase and successful launch of the venue
- Recruiting, training, coaching, and retaining a high-performing team
- Establishing a positive and engaging culture for employees and customers
- Delivering consistently high standards of service and operational excellence
- Taking ownership of the venue’s commercial and financial performance
- Managing labor planning, stock control, waste, and controllable costs
- Monitoring performance and identifying opportunities to increase sales and profitability
- Working closely with senior leadership to deliver wider business objectives
- Building strong relationships within the Dundee community
- Developing local partnerships, events, and initiatives that drive awareness and repeat business
- Ensuring all operational, licensing, health and safety, and compliance standards are maintained

About You
We are looking for an experienced hospitality leader who combines strong commercial awareness with excellent people-management skills. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a General Manager within a busy, high-volume hospitality venue
- A strong customer-first and hospitality-led approach
- Proven experience recruiting, developing, and motivating teams
- Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of profit, not only sales
- Experience managing labor, stock, budgets, and controllable costs
- Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
- The confidence to work independently and take genuine ownership
- A proactive, positive, and solutions-focused approach
- An understanding of the Dundee market or a strong desire to become part of the local community
