General Manager
Location: Crewe
Salary: Up to £66,000 + Benefits
Hours: 37.5 per week
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Manager to lead a high-volume distribution operation supporting both retail and eCommerce channels. Reporting to the Group Supply Chain Director, this role holds full responsibility for the operational, financial, and people performance of a large-scale distribution centre.
This position requires a commercially astute and energetic leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can drive operational excellence, and has the ambition to challenge the status quo. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping future operational strategies while creating a culture focused on safety, engagement, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across a 200,000 sq. ft. distribution centre, overseeing warehouse, transport, fleet, and trunking activities.
- Create and deliver operational plans covering volume forecasts, labour requirements, service performance, and site efficiency.
- Champion Health & Safety standards, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all colleagues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through effective use of operational data, analytics, and performance metrics.
- Lead projects focused on operational efficiencies, including warehouse layout optimisation, process improvements, and productivity enhancements.
- Contribute to the development of future site capabilities and wider transport network improvements.

Commercial & Financial Management
- Take ownership of the site P&L, budgets, overheads, and cost performance.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Balance commercial objectives with exceptional customer service standards.
- Establish and maintain robust operational controls to deliver high levels of accuracy, quality, and service performance.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a large operational leadership team and wider workforce.
- Build a high-performance culture centred around accountability, engagement, and recognition.
- Strengthen organisational capability through talent development, succession planning, and leadership coaching.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative working environment that values wellbeing, communication, and diversity of thought.
- Build strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders across the wider business.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- A valid CPC qualification (essential).
- Significant General Manager or senior site leadership experience within logistics, transport, warehousing, retail, FMCG, eCommerce, or distribution environments.
- Strong transport and warehouse operational expertise.
- Proven experience managing large, complex operations and leading sizeable teams.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L performance, and operational costs.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and operational data to drive decision-making.
- Excellent project management skills and a track record of delivering operational change and continuous improvement.
- Outstanding leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence teams at all levels.
- A resilient, hands-on approach combined with strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- A passion for developing people and creating a culture of high performance.
