General Manager - Build to Rent - New Scheme - £65,000 - £70,000 + Bonus
Lead a New Standard for Rental Living in Dagenham
Dagenham, East London | Full-time
This is an opportunity to lead a brand-new build-to-rent development in East London, with the chance to shape a residential community from the ground up.
Set within one of East London's major regeneration projects, this development will bring together 360 purpose-built rental apartments across three buildings, alongside a range of premium resident amenities and landscaped communal spaces.
With a dedicated concierge, co-working facilities, private dining spaces, fitness facilities and landscaped gardens overlooking a new urban park, the development is designed to offer residents much more than just an apartment. Add direct access to Dagenham Dock station, with trains reaching central London in around 20 minutes, and you've got an exciting proposition for modern renters.
We're looking for a commercially driven General Manager who can bring the development to life, lead the onsite operation and establish an exceptional resident experience from day one.
This isn't simply about managing a building. It's about creating a thriving community and maximising the performance of a significant new residential asset.
The role
You'll take full ownership of the onsite lettings and property management operation, running the development as if it were your own business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

That means:
- Owning the P&L: Driving rental growth, maximising occupancy, managing operating costs and reporting on financial performance with commercial rigour.
- Leading the onsite team: Building, developing and inspiring a multidisciplinary team across leasing, facilities and customer service, creating a culture of accountability and high performance.
- Delivering an exceptional resident experience: Making the most of the development's amenities, organising community events and creating an environment where residents feel connected and proud of where they live.
- Maintaining operational excellence: Overseeing day-to-day property operations, health and safety, compliance, sustainability and the overall presentation of the development.
- Building local relationships: Establishing connections with local businesses and the wider Dagenham community to raise the development's profile and support its long-term success.
- Driving asset performance: Working closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, enhance resident satisfaction and maximise the long-term value of the asset.
About you
You'll have at least three years' experience leading teams within build-to-rent, PBSA, hospitality or another purpose-built residential environment.

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
You understand the commercial side of running a residential operation, from managing budgets and driving occupancy to developing people and delivering outstanding customer service.
You're hands-on, commercially astute and confident taking ownership. You're equally comfortable reviewing a P&L, coaching your team and resolving a resident issue, with the ability to balance the bigger strategic picture with the details that make a real difference to the resident experience.
You'll also be someone who enjoys building something. Whether that's developing a high-performing team, establishing operational standards or creating a genuine sense of community, you'll see this as an opportunity to make your mark.
Propertymark, IRPM or IOSH qualifications would be advantageous, but they're not essential. Leadership, commercial awareness and a genuine passion for residential operations are what matter most.
Why this opportunity?
You'll be leading a substantial new rental development within a wider regeneration project that's transforming the local area.
With premium amenities, strong transport connections and a clear focus on community living, this is an opportunity to take ownership of a development with significant potential and shape how residents experience it for years to come.
