We are opening an eight court indoor padel venue in Welwyn Garden City, with a café and bar, a pro shop and a coaching programme built around one of the fastest growing sports in the country. It is a new site, a new team and a blank sheet of paper.
We are looking for a General Manager to run it.
The role
You will be the person who owns the venue. Day to day operations, the team, the numbers, the atmosphere on court and in the bar. You will report directly to the CEO and you will have real autonomy over how the place is run.
Because we are pre-opening, the first few months are about building rather than maintaining. You will help recruit the front desk and hospitality team, set up the booking system and processes, bring in coaches, and get the doors open properly rather than just open.
What you will be responsible for
- Running the venue day to day, from opening to close, across courts, café and bar, and pro shop
- Recruiting, training and leading a team of around fifteen people, plus a roster of self employed coaches
- Owning the site P&L: revenue targets, court occupancy, staff costs, margins on food, drink and retail
- Managing court utilisation and pricing through our booking platform, including off peak and dynamic pricing
- Building the membership base and the community around it, through leagues, tournaments, socials and coaching pathways
- Health and safety, licensing, compliance and supplier relationships
- Reporting on performance to the CEO and board, and flagging problems early rather than at month end

What we are looking for
You come from hospitality. That is not a nice to have for us. Restaurants, bars, hotels, private members’ clubs, premium leisure venues with a proper food and drink offer: somewhere you have been responsible for service standards, covers, stock and a team on a busy Saturday night. You have run a site, led a team, held a budget and been accountable for how the place performed.

Beyond that:
- Confident with numbers. You can look at a weekly report and know what to change on Monday.
- Genuinely good with people, both the team and the members. This is a social sport and the venue lives or dies on whether people want to come back.
- Comfortable with the messy early stage of a new business, where the answer is not always written down somewhere.
- Available evenings and weekends when it matters, because that is when padel happens.
