General Manager, Oil & Gas Manufacturing and Industrial Services, Aberdeen
The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the performance, growth, and strategic development of our Oil & Gas Manufacturing and Industrial Services business in Aberdeen.
The role will lead a multidisciplinary operation supporting customers across the energy sector, including oil & gas operators, EPCs, OEMs, manufacturers, fabrication companies, and other industrial clients.
The General Manager will have accountability for P&L performance, commercial growth, operational execution, customer relationships, quality, health & safety, and organizational development. The successful candidate will combine strong operational leadership with a commercial mindset and a deep understanding of the oil & gas and industrial manufacturing market.
Key Responsibilities
Business Leadership & P&L Management
- Assume full operational and financial accountability for the Aberdeen business.
- Develop and execute the annual business plan, budget, and longer-term strategic plan.
- Deliver revenue, EBITDA, margin, and cash-flow objectives.
- Establish clear operational and financial KPIs and ensure performance against plan.
- Identify opportunities to improve utilization, productivity, pricing, gross margin, and overall profitability.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of market dynamics, competitive activity, and customer requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.

Commercial Growth
- Develop and execute a commercial strategy focused on profitable growth within the Aberdeen and wider North Sea market.
- Build senior-level relationships with major oil & gas operators, EPCs, OEMs, manufacturers, fabrication companies, and supply-chain organizations.
- Identify opportunities to expand SGS services within existing accounts.
- Develop new business opportunities across inspection, testing, manufacturing surveillance, quality assurance, laboratory services, and technical support.
- Partner with SGS sales and global business lines to develop cross-selling and strategic account opportunities.
- Monitor competitive activity and ensure SGS maintains a differentiated market position.
- Participate in major tenders, framework agreements, and strategic customer negotiations.
- Develop partnerships and relationships throughout the regional energy ecosystem.
Operations & Manufacturing Services
- Provide leadership for all operational activities associated with the Aberdeen business.
- Ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and to customer requirements.
- Oversee manufacturing inspection, vendor surveillance, quality inspection, testing, and associated technical services.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, equipment, facilities, and technical resources are available to meet customer demand.
- Improve resource utilization, scheduling, productivity, and operational efficiency.
- Establish and maintain robust processes for project execution and customer delivery.
- Ensure appropriate management of subcontractors and external service providers.
- Identify operational risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be an experienced General Manager, Business Unit Director, Operations Director, or senior commercial/operations leader with significant experience in the oil & gas, energy, industrial services, manufacturing, inspection, testing, engineering, or related sectors.
The individual should bring a combination of:
- Proven P&L management experience.
- Strong commercial and business-development capability.
- Experience leading an operationally complex business.
- Experience managing technical and engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of the oil & gas supply chain.
- Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, inspection, or testing environments.
- Experience working with major oil & gas operators and/or EPC organizations.
- Strong understanding of QHSE and quality-management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to improve profitability and operational performance.
- Strong customer and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, multinational organization.
