General Manager UK

Are you an entrepreneurial manager who spots opportunities, takes ownership and thrives on growing a business? Do you have experience building or expanding a company, and do you enjoy combining strategic thinking with hands-on operational involvement?

At Welex Group, you'll have the opportunity to further develop our operations in the United Kingdom. You'll start by leading a small team of two employees and take responsibility for the commercial, operational and organisational development of our UK branch.

We're not looking for someone who simply manages from behind a desk. We want someone who takes initiative, creates opportunities and is willing to get involved in every aspect of the business.

Working at Welex Group

Welex Group is an international, family-owned business specialising in the manufacturing, sales and rental of timber mats, steel road plates and temporary ground protection and access solutions.

Our products are used across a wide range of projects, including construction, infrastructure, industrial and energy projects. We help ensure that people, vehicles and machinery can access sites safely and efficiently.

With approximately 80 colleagues across several European countries, we work together to deliver practical solutions for our customers.

Welex is growing rapidly, both domestically and internationally. We also have ambitious plans for the UK market and are looking for someone who can play a key role in driving that growth.

What sets us apart? An informal, down-to-earth working environment, short lines of communication and plenty of room for initiative. We value people who take ownership, get things done and turn opportunities into results.

What will you be doing?

As General Manager UK, you'll be responsible for building, developing and growing our UK branch.

You'll lead two employees and ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly. At the same time, you'll be looking ahead: where are the commercial opportunities, which processes can be improved, and what people or resources will be needed to support further growth?

You'll have a high level of autonomy and responsibility. From business development and people management to budgeting, planning and logistics coordination, you'll ensure the branch operates effectively and is prepared for future expansion.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Strategy & growth: Develop a clear strategy for our UK branch and translate growth objectives into practical plans and actions.
  • Business development: Build and maintain relationships with existing and new customers, identify commercial opportunities and drive revenue and customer growth.
  • Leadership: Support, coach and develop the two existing employees, establish clear responsibilities and build a strong, effective team.
  • Recruitment & team expansion: Identify staffing requirements as the business grows and take an active role in recruiting, selecting and onboarding new colleagues.
  • Operational management: Ensure day-to-day activities run efficiently and take a hands-on approach whenever required.
  • Planning & logistics: Coordinate logistics activities, monitor the availability of rental equipment and ensure effective communication between customers, transport providers and the branch.
  • Financial management: Prepare budgets and forecasts, monitor costs and margins, and drive sustainable financial performance.
  • Process improvement: Develop and optimise working processes, introduce structure and ensure the organisation can scale with increasing demand.
  • Collaboration & reporting: Work closely with the management team of Welex Group and provide monthly reports on commercial and financial results, operational performance and the progress of the UK branch.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Your role is not simply to manage an existing branch, but to take an active part in developing and expanding the business.

Initially, you'll be closely involved in day-to-day operations. As the business grows, you'll expand the team and ensure responsibilities are clearly defined and effectively delegated.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for an entrepreneurial and commercially driven General Manager who understands what it takes to grow a business.

You don't necessarily need experience managing a large organisation. In fact, we're particularly interested in candidates who have previously started their own business, developed a branch or successfully grown a smaller company.

You understand that business growth requires commitment and initiative. You're comfortable rolling up your sleeves, taking responsibility and making decisions.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in a commercial, operational or general management role.
  • Proven experience establishing, developing or growing a business, branch or business unit.
  • A strong entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to identify and act on opportunities independently.
  • Experience managing, coaching and developing employees.
  • Commercial and financial awareness, including experience with budgeting, cost control and performance management.
  • The ability to think strategically while remaining practically involved in the business.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience coordinating planning and daily operations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-growing organisation where priorities may change.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Experience in equipment rental, construction, infrastructure, logistics or engineering would be a strong advantage.

What do we offer?

At Welex, you'll have the opportunity to play an important role in the continued growth of our UK operations. You'll enjoy the freedom to operate with an entrepreneurial mindset within an international family-owned business, supported by the experience and expertise of our other branches.
