I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Additional Information
About the Scunthorpe Site
The Scunthorpe site is a whole bird processing site; we process everything, nothing goes to waste. We have a strong multicultural workforce; you’ll hear many languages on a daily basis. But we work together, communication might not always be verbal, but we make it work as a team.
The working environment is chilled and noisy; we provide all necessary PPE but advise you to wear layers to ensure you’re comfortable.
There are 2 main working environments within the factory for General Operatives:
- Cutting – involves cutting the bird into set portions, such as breast meat, wings, and thigh fillets, which will then be packed into the appropriate size packaging. Some cutting is completed by machines, some by hand. You will be trained to undertake manual cutting/filleting, and salary premiums are available for those who excel.
- Whole Bird – involves dealing with the unportioned birds, seasoning and packing the whole chicken, loading the product into baskets that will then be stacked onto pallets.
