As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic General Operative – Escort Driver to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role purpose: To safely escort and coordinate vehicle movements across the project in line with site logistics and security requirements, ensuring compliance with traffic management plans.

This is a multi-functional role, with the expectation that the individual will undertake general operative duties when escort driving requirements are reduced or not required.

What you'll be doing

Escort Driving Duties

  • Escort delivery vehicles and visitors safely across site in accordance with site procedures
  • Ensure compliance with designated routes, speed limits, and access restrictions
  • Act as the key point of contact for drivers entering and navigating the site
  • Coordinate with logistics teams, gate staff, and traffic marshals to manage site movements
  • Conduct vehicle checks prior to use and ensure vehicles are operated safely
  • Monitor and report any safety concerns, incidents, or breaches of site rules

General Operative Duties (as Required)

  • Support day-to-day site operations across construction, mechanical and electrical activities
  • Assist with material handling, unloading, and movement of goods
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all work areas
  • Support logistics, stores, and laydown area activities
  • Carry out manual handling tasks in line with training
  • Follow site procedures, permits, and method statements

Key Accountabilities

  • Safe and compliant escorting of all site vehicles
  • Flexibility to transition between escort driving and general operative duties
  • Supporting efficient site logistics and movement of materials
  • Maintaining high safety and operational standards

Who we're looking for

Required

  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • CSCS Card (or equivalent site access requirement)
  • Previous experience in a construction, logistics, or site-based role
  • Good understanding of site safety and traffic management principles
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

Desirable

  • Traffic Marshal / Vehicle Banksman qualification
  • Experience on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
  • Familiarity with site logistics and access control processes
  • Manual handling training

Additional Notes

  • This is not a standalone driving role; individuals will be expected to undertake general operative duties when escort driving is not required
  • Duties may vary depending on project phase and logistics demands
  • Working hours and responsibilities will align with project requirements
