At VolkerGround Engineering, we play a vital role in supporting infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. To help us continue delivering exceptional service, we're looking for a reliable and hardworking General / Yard Operative to join our team at our Morecambe Depot.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and wants to be part of a supportive team environment. You'll play a key role in ensuring our plant, equipment and materials are organised, maintained and ready to support projects across the business.

The Role
As a General / Yard Operative, you'll be involved in a variety of tasks that support the day-to-day running of our depot. Working closely with engineers and depot staff, you'll help ensure equipment is maintained, stock is managed efficiently, and the yard remains safe, organised and operational at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general yard duties, including loading, unloading, storing and organising materials and equipment.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across the depot, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment.
- Conduct stock and inventory checks on stores containers returned from site.
- Replenish, organise and record stock levels, reporting requirements for re-ordering.
- Assist engineers with six-monthly inspections of lifting equipment.
- Quarantine and dispose of failed equipment as directed, ensuring replacements are arranged.
- Support the preparation and checking of plant and equipment before deployment to site.
- Collect and deliver equipment to project sites using the company vehicle when required.
- Work safely around plant, vehicles and heavy equipment at all times.
- Support the wider depot team with general operational activities as required.

What We're Looking For
- A positive attitude and willingness to get involved in a variety of tasks.
- Experience in a yard, warehouse, depot, construction or engineering environment is desirable.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- A flexible approach and willingness to support operational needs when required.
