Where will you be working?
We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.
This role will be within our Demand management and network infrastructure team. We look after 60 million meters and our teams provide advanced metering solutions to help manage demand for essential suppliers.

What will you be doing?
As a Second Man / General Operative, you'll work on behalf of Yorkshire Water helping to maintain and support the water infrastructure network across the Yorkshire region. The role involves travelling throughout Yorkshire and working as part of a dedicated two-person team alongside an experienced Team Leader.
You will assist with a variety of operational activities, supporting the Team Leader to complete work safely, efficiently and to a high standard. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong work ethic, reliability and a commitment to health and safety.
We are looking for someone who can follow instructions, work effectively as part of a team and maintain a professional approach at all times. You'll be representing both Yorkshire Water and M Group Water, so good communication skills and a positive attitude are essential when interacting with customers and members of the public.

The role is varied and will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions, walking and standing on uneven ground, and carrying out physically demanding tasks. You must be comfortable working within confined spaces where required and be able to undertake manual duties including lifting, carrying, bending and digging safely.
You'll also be expected to use mobile applications to receive and complete work instructions, record job information and support daily operations.
What You'll Bring
- Previous experience in a utilities, construction, groundwork, civils or general operative role would be advantageous but not essential
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn something new
- Experience assisting with excavation, reinstatement or site works is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a two-person team.
- A strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to undertake physical outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Basic mobile device and application skills.
- A valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
