The Opportunity:
We're looking for a General Operative to join our team at Callow Quarry. This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across quarry operations, from operating mobile plant and supporting production activities to providing cover for the site weighbridge.
Working Monday to Friday, with shifts of either 05:30–15:30 or 06:30–16:30, you'll also have opportunities for overtime on Saturday mornings. You'll play an important part in a close-knit team, helping to keep the quarry operating safely, efficiently and to the high standards our customers and colleagues expect.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operating mobile plant: Safely operating mobile plant and equipment, following site procedures and completing the necessary pre-use checks to support the movement and handling of materials around the quarry.
- Supporting production activities: Assisting with the operation of fixed production plant, helping to maintain consistent output and ensuring materials are produced and dispatched in line with operational requirements.
- Dispatching materials: Supporting the efficient movement and dispatch of products, helping to ensure vehicles are loaded appropriately and materials reach customers in a timely manner.
- Monitoring product quality: Carrying out routine checks and monitoring materials to help maintain product quality and ensure any concerns are identified and reported promptly.
- Providing weighbridge cover: Providing holiday and sickness cover for the site weighbridge, accurately processing vehicle movements, recording information and using computer-based systems to support the smooth running of site traffic.
- Carrying out inspections: Completing routine plant and equipment inspections, identifying potential issues and reporting faults or maintenance requirements to the appropriate colleagues.
- Maintaining site standards: Taking pride in maintaining excellent housekeeping standards across the site, helping to ensure working areas remain clean, organised and safe.
- Supporting maintenance activities: Working alongside maintenance colleagues and contractors where required, helping to coordinate operational activities and support the safe completion of maintenance work.
- Working safely: Following all site health, safety and environmental procedures, using the appropriate personal protective equipment and actively contributing to a positive safety culture.
- Working as part of the team: Supporting colleagues across different areas of the operation, adapting to changing priorities and helping ensure the site continues to run smoothly and efficiently.

We're looking for someone who is practical, dependable and enthusiastic about learning. You'll enjoy working outdoors and as part of a busy operational team, while being comfortable taking responsibility for your own tasks.
You'll also bring:
- Computer literacy: You're comfortable using computers and digital systems, with the ability to learn site-specific software and accurately record information.
- A hands-on approach: You enjoy practical work, aren't afraid to get stuck in and take pride in completing tasks to a high standard.
- A willingness to learn: You're keen to develop new skills, gain experience across different areas of quarry operations and make the most of the training and development opportunities available.
- Teamwork and communication: You work well with others, communicate clearly and are comfortable interacting with colleagues, customers, drivers and site visitors.
- Organisation and reliability: You're dependable, punctual and able to manage your responsibilities effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail: You understand the importance of following procedures, completing checks accurately and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Flexibility: You're happy to work across different areas of the site, adapt to changing operational needs and provide cover where required.
- A positive attitude to safety: You recognise the importance of working safely, following instructions and looking out for yourself and those around you.
