Permanent General Operative/Handyperson - Belfast

Location: Ashfield Girls' High School, 397 Holywood Rd, Belfast BT4 1RT

Salary: £28,051.20

Hours: 37.5 per week
Shift Work:

  • Week 1: 6:30am – 2:30pm
  • Week 2: 10:30am – 6:30pm
    Shift patterns may vary and will be confirmed in interview.

About Amey
Amey provides facilities and estate management services at Belfast Schools. They work closely with clients and end-users to deliver 24/7 services with minimal disruption to the college's operations.


Role Overview
Ensure smooth running of the school premises. Key tasks include:

  • Opening and locking the building
  • Day-to-day DIY/maintenance and minor repairs
  • Ensuring heating, lighting, and alarm systems are working properly
  • Booking engineers for major repair work
  • Checking doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use
  • Guarding against vandalism
  • Arranging and clearing away chairs and tables for meetings or assemblies
  • Working under the direction of the team lead
  • Adhering to best practice and health and safety regulations
  • Carrying out PPMs

Skills and Experience Required

  • Knowledge and previous experience in practical DIY skills for minor repair
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Good team player
  • Flexible with shift work
  • Good at developing strong working relationships with on-site clients and employees
  • Committed to providing excellent customer service
  • Knowledgeable of Health and Safety regulations
  • Familiar with COSHH standards
  • Basic IT skills
