Job Overview
Portering Services provides essential support to all areas of the hospital. The porter will be expected to react to the various challenges within the working environment, and the workload may be increased due to external influences including the environment, weather, patient capacity, etc.
The porter will work as part of a team contributing to the smooth running of the service, providing an efficient and effective response to requests for patient movement, assistance in emergency situations, collection and delivery of samples and medicines, etc., whilst ensuring that other tasks such as delivery of meal trolleys, linen, goods, and mail are carried out in a timely manner.
Whilst many of the tasks are generally routine, the daily functioning of the service may be unpredictable, therefore a flexible approach is essential, and the post holder will be expected to use their own initiative.
Main Duties of the Job
- Carry out duties as part of a team and individually to support the services within BCU
- Collect waste from all areas of the site
- Transport patients to wards and departments
- Transport meal trolleys
- Be able to communicate well and follow instructions given from management

- Good standard of secondary education
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level Two in Customer Service
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate good communication skills, being able to communicate sensitively with patients and their families often in difficult circumstances
- Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a similar post
