The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

We currently have an opportunity in our Portering Services Department for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work within the Glan Clwyd Hospital and across Community sites.

The post holder will respond to requests for the movement of patients and goods in an appropriate and timely manner to provide a comprehensive and efficient service. This will involve the lifting, transferring, pushing and pulling of substantial weight with the assistance of mechanical aids where a risk assessment has identified the need to use them; these may include sack and pallet trucks, driven and hand held tugs / mechanical movers, stairwell climbers.

This is a physically demanding but rewarding role.

If this all sounds like you and you have the drive and enthusiasm to make a difference with a key sense of customer care and focus to deliver, we want to hear from you today.

Main duties of the job

Portering Services provides essential support to all areas of the hospital.

The porter will be expected to react to the various challenges within the working environment. The workload changes daily but may increase due to external influences including the environment, weather, patient capacity, patient flow, etc.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The porter will work as part of a team contributing to the smooth running of the service. They will provide an efficient and effective response to requests for patient movement, assistance in emergency situations, collection and delivery of samples and medicines etc., all whilst ensuring that other scheduled tasks such as delivery of meal trolleys, linen, goods and mail etc. are carried out in a timely manner.

Many of the tasks are generally routine but the daily functioning of the service may be unpredictable therefore a flexible approach is essential and the post holder will be expected to use their own initiative.
