General Practice Accountant
Colchester, Essex
ACA/ACCA Qualified Salary up to £60,000

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified General Practice Accountant to join our independent accounting firm in Colchester.
This role is central to delivering exceptional financial services to a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries. As a General Practice Accountant, you will manage full-cycle accounting functions, including financial reporting, tax compliance, and client advisory services. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellence in client service.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP and IFRS standards.
- Manage end-to-end client accounting cycles, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and ledger maintenance.
- Prepare and file VAT returns, PAYE, and CT600 tax returns with accuracy and timeliness.
- Deliver precise tax computations and support corporate and personal tax planning initiatives.
- Engage directly with clients to collect financial data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Support audit and assurance engagements through internal reviews and coordination with external auditors.
- Assist in preparing management accounts and financial analysis to inform client decision-making.
- Stay current with evolving tax legislation, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities for value-added services.
- Mentor junior team members and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality client work.

Requirements:
General Practice Accountant
- Qualified ACA or ACCA with proven experience in general practice accounting.
- Circa 3 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable accounting firm.
- In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and PAYE.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-first approach.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
- Willingness to travel to client sites within Sudbury, Suffolk, Colchester and surrounding areas.
