Generalist HR Manager
Location: Gloucester
Working Pattern: 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday)
Salary: £36,000 - £40,000 (£45,000 - £50,000 Full time equivalent)
Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
About the role
Our client, a multi-site organisation operating across the UK and internationally, are looking for an experienced HR Manager to lead day-to-day people operations and support the delivery of a high-quality HR service.
You will manage employee relations, organisational change, recruitment, payroll oversight, learning and development, and people projects across multiple business areas.
This is a hands-on HR generalist role covering employee relations, HR systems, payroll, compliance and organisational development within a busy and evolving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide functional leadership, coaching and support to the HR and Payroll team
- Act as the escalation point for complex HR and payroll matters
- Support the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through to contract closure
- Coordinate recruitment activity, onboarding processes and employment checks
- Maintain and improve HR systems, people data and reporting
- Manage complex employee relations casework including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance matters
- Coach and advise line managers on day-to-day people issues and employee lifecycle activity
- Identify and manage employee relations risk and support resolution of sensitive issues
- Deliver organisational change and restructuring activity from planning through to implementation
- Manage consultation processes and ensure compliance with employment legislation
- Lead job design, role evaluation and job description development
- Design and deliver learning and development initiatives across the business
- Support and promote equality, diversity and inclusion activity
- Review and audit payroll processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Lead and develop employee benefits and recognition programmes
- Support pay review and bonus processes
- Maintain and improve HR policies, procedures and employee documentation
- Support employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- Partner with international teams to provide HR support and governance
- Deliver HR projects, process improvements and systems initiatives

Skills and experience
- Strong experience as an HR Manager or Senior HR Generalist in a hands-on role
- Experience working with office and warehouse colleagues
- Solid background managing employee relations casework
- Experience providing leadership and support to HR teams
- CIPD Level 5 qualified as a minimum
- Exposure to organisational change, consultation and restructuring activity
- Experience supporting a multi-site business environment
- Knowledge of employment law and HR compliance
- Experience working with HR systems, payroll platforms and Excel
- Ability to analyse and maintain people data and reporting
- Exposure to international HR operations would be beneficial
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Comfortable handling confidential and sensitive information
- Willingness to travel when required for business needs
