Contract OpenAI Engineer
Security clearance is essential (SC)
Up to £445 p/d Inside IR35
U.K based fully remote
We are seeking an experienced security cleared OpenAI Engineer to support the practical design, prototyping and evaluation of AI-powered solutions for Cyber Security Operations Centre activities.
You will work closely with an AI Solution Architect and Business Analyst, translating discovery findings into working proof-of-concepts, validating technical feasibility and assessing how Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI assistants and agentic AI can safely and effectively support SOC analysts and wider cyber operations.
The role will focus on applying OpenAI technologies to real-world cyber security use cases, ensuring solutions are secure, responsible, measurable and aligned with operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype and evaluate OpenAI-powered solutions for cyber security operations.
- Develop proof-of-concepts using LLMs, RAG, AI assistants and agentic AI approaches.
- Translate discovery and business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Assess the technical feasibility, performance and operational value of AI solutions.
- Develop integrations with existing cyber security platforms and APIs.
- Implement evaluation frameworks to measure model performance, reliability and effectiveness.
- Apply responsible AI and AI safety controls throughout solution development.
- Work collaboratively with architects, analysts, cyber security professionals and technical stakeholders.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Strong Python development skills and experience with relevant AI frameworks.
- Strong experience with OpenAI platforms and API development.
- Experience developing experiments, prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
- Practical experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering and prompt optimisation.
- Hands-on experience implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Experience with agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration.
- Development of AI assistants, copilots or similar AI solutions.
- Experience with vector databases and knowledge retrieval.
- Understanding of SOC processes and cyber security operations.
- Experience with AI evaluation, model performance testing and benchmarking.
- Knowledge of Responsible AI and AI safety controls.
- Experience integrating AI solutions with SIEM, SOAR and cyber security platforms.
- Strong understanding of secure software engineering and API integration.
