Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a Genomic Data Scientist to join our cutting-edge team based on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
You will work in an agile, collaborative environment as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing strong analytical and programming skills for germline and somatic variant analyses for our cancer pipeline squad.
Everyday Responsibilities
- Developing and fine-tuning algorithms for variant prioritization and classification for cancer diagnostics and screening.
- Benchmarking and improving tools for processing and analyzing whole genome data and performing custom computational analyses.
- Managing the full cycle of NGS data analysis, from sequencing QC to annotation and prioritization of variants
Skills and Experience for Success
- Proficiency in using Python and R for efficient data processing and analysis.
- Knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning.
- Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing algorithms.
- Expertise in cancer genomics, understanding tumor drivers, and interpreting genomic data through targeted pathways.
- Hands-on experience in developing high-quality, reusable code, with a strong command of Git and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to evaluate statistical and machine learning techniques, apply them in practical scenarios, and interpret results while considering the assumptions and limitations of the methods.
- Experience working in cross-functional analytical team in an academic or industry setting.

- PhD degree or equivalent practical experience in an industry setting.
Additional Information
- Salary: from £57,000
- Location: Canary Wharf office, 1 day per week

Blended Working Model
Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility that hybrid working can bring. We expect most people to come into the office a minimum of 2 times each month. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require full-time on-site attendance e.g., lab teams, reception team.
