Geo-Environmental Consultant – Oil Spill Response

Midlands / North England / Scottish Borders | £28K-£45K + Package

  • Working as a Geo-Environmental Consultant / Oil Spill Specialist for a progressive environmental specialist delivering innovative, sustainable solutions across contaminated land, pollution response and environmental remediation.
  • This growing organisation has an excellent reputation for tackling complex environmental challenges, combining technical consultancy, site investigation and practical remediation solutions. You will join a collaborative team where you can develop your technical expertise, take ownership of projects and make a tangible environmental difference.
  • The position is field/home based and ideally suited to someone located across the Midlands, North of England or Scottish Borders, with travel to project sites as required.

You will like

  • The Geo-Environmental Consultant – Oil Spill Response role itself, combining site investigation and environmental consultancy with hands-on involvement in domestic and commercial oil spills, contaminated land and remediation projects.
  • You will investigate pollution incidents, assess environmental risks and help develop appropriate investigation and remediation strategies. Projects could range from domestic heating-oil spills affecting residential properties through to larger contaminated land and groundwater investigations. More specifically:
    • Undertaking contaminated land and oil spill site investigations
    • Soil, groundwater and environmental sampling
    • Assessing hydrocarbon contamination and pollution pathways
    • Supporting emergency and planned oil spill response projects
    • Producing factual and interpretative environmental reports
    • Developing conceptual site models and remediation recommendations
    • Liaising with homeowners, clients, insurers, regulators and contractors
    • Supporting remediation works through to verification and completion
    • Travelling to sites across your region and occasionally further afield

This could suit an Environmental Consultant, Geo-Environmental Consultant, Contaminated Land Consultant, Remediation Consultant or Oil Spill Specialist looking for greater project exposure and career development.

You will have

  • To be successful as Geo-Environmental Consultant – Oil Spill Response, you will ideally have:
    • Circa 2-7 years' experience within geo-environmental, contaminated land, remediation or pollution response
    • Experience of domestic oil spills or heating-oil contamination would be particularly advantageous
    • Practical site investigation experience
    • Understanding of contaminated land investigation and UK environmental regulation
    • Knowledge of soil and groundwater contamination
    • Ability to interpret site data and contribute to technical reports
    • Strong communication and client-facing skills
    • Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Geoscience, Hydrogeology or similar
    • Full UK driving licence
    • Willingness to undertake field-based work and regional travel
  • You don't necessarily need to be the finished article. A solid contaminated-land foundation combined with the willingness to develop specialist oil-spill and remediation expertise could make you an excellent fit.
