Geotechnical Engineer / Geo-Environmental Engineer

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a technical background and demonstrable experience in any area of the geotechnical, geo-environmental or geology sectors.

Due to continued and sustained growth in the UK, a significant increase in workload and a portfolio diversification of services, our client is now looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer / Geo-Environmental Engineer.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will enjoy a blend of site, office and home working, and join an experienced and enthusiastic team of staff delivering geotechnical, geo-environmental and site / ground investigation services to a wide ranging client base. Additionally, you will be required to analyse your findings and convey this information into well documented factual and interpretative reports, both for the company's in-house pre-contracts and project teams, and externally to their clients and other stakeholders.

The Person & The Role

  • A degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences or a related subject
  • Possess previous practical or relevant experience, post-graduation
  • Knowledge of ground investigation techniques and BS5930
  • Experience with relevant data management software packages
  • IT competent in Microsoft packages, and the ability to work independently or with a team
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines and under pressure
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy of work, effective planning and organisation skills
  • A structured approach to problem solving, with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Awareness of the relevant industry legal and safety regulations
  • Able to produce factual or interpretive reports
  • Attention to detail, with experience in compiling critical data from multiple sources
  • Comply to all company and site specific HSEQ policies at all times
  • Responsible for site operatives and sub-contractors
  • Attend and successfully carry out all assigned duties to deliver projects safely and timely
  • Undertake multiple projects covering various service disciplines utilising appropriate plant, labour and resource in accordance with the ground conditions, site access and specification
  • Complete in-situ testing and sampling
  • Produce reports based upon relevant site information, ground conditions and any other specific project requirements
  • Organisation of intrusive investigations, including health and safety aspects, and proactively managing and instructing subcontractors and site operations
  • Complete and/or supervisor site work, e.g., trial pitting, soakage testing, soil logging of trial pits and boreholes to BS5930/Eurocode 7, groundwater/ground-gas monitoring
  • Manage the receipt, storage, and preparation of samples for laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols, internal SLAs and project timelines, dispose of samples in line with internal procedures
  • Provide a consultative approach to engineering, advising, and recommending solutions
  • A demonstrable understanding and experience of various drilling-based projects, with the ability to use and operate drilling rigs and equipment
  • Reading and understanding of site / project specifications and drawings
  • A good understanding of adopting varied techniques pertaining to the ground / site conditions, including rotary, cable percussion, bore hole logging, core sampling, window sampling and trial pitting etc
  • A full awareness of project specifications and other contract documents
  • An ability to produce reports that are easily digested based on gathering technical data and information from multiple sites
  • Highly organised and effective, with the ability to plan and schedule your own workload with the minimum of supervision
