GI Systems Training & Support Officer
We are transforming our GIS service offer to deliver a more targeted, sustainable, and self-service-focused model. As part of this transition, we are seeking a GI Systems Training & Support Officer for 18 months to play a pivotal role in empowering GIS users across the organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional helpdesk support and become a key enabler of GIS capability; helping staff build confidence, skills, and independence in using spatial data, tools, and applications.

You will be part of a team of GIS professionals specialising in spatial data management. We lead on creating organisational value from data; ensuring our enterprise spatial data is trusted, understood, well governed and that we maximise the value from data to deliver our strategy.

Your contractual location will be Heelis, Swindon. However, there will be an opportunity to explore and agree a hybrid working arrangement which strikes the right balance for you and the Trust. The role may also involve travel to properties or other regional hubs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What you'll be doing
You will design and implement a structured GIS training programme for users across the organisation. From junior roles through to directors and spanning all capability levels from beginner to advanced, you will empower users to confidently self-serve and support the transition to a self-service GIS model.
- Create high-quality learning materials
- Provide ongoing technical support
- Lead for best practice in data management, analysis and map production
- Build a community of practice, which will bring GIS users from across the organisation together to collaborate, share knowledge, develop skills and promote best practice
- Enable a cultural shift in the organisation to new democratised ways of working with spatial data

- Experience using GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, web mapping tools)
- Experience developing training programmes or learning content
- Strong communication and training delivery skills
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, user-friendly guidance
- Experience supporting users with varying levels of GIS knowledge
- Familiarity with spatial data analysis and reporting tools
- Experience working with data governance or data management practices
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving
