Senior GIS Engineer
6-month contract
Remote Working
Outside IR35
Market Rates (c£500 per day)
The Opportunity:
ISR are working with a market-leading IT Consultancy to secure the services of a Senior GIS Consultant to assist with critical project work over the coming months and join a multidisciplinary Agile team.
This is an exciting opportunity to help design, build and support modern cloud-native geospatial data services that underpin critical national decision-making.
You'll play a key role in developing scalable geospatial processing pipelines, integrating spatial datasets from multiple sources and delivering high-quality services for analytics, reporting and operational applications.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Senior GIS / Geospatial Consultant, delivering geospatial solutions within large-scale, data-driven environments.
- Strong consultancy background with experience working in multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder-facing environments.
- Demonstrable experience designing, building and supporting scalable geospatial data platforms and services.
- Deep understanding of geospatial data formats, including GeoPackage, GeoTIFF, Cloud Optimised GeoTIFFs (COGs), FlatGeobuf and PMTiles.
- Hands-on experience developing geospatial data ingestion, transformation, validation, storage and publishing pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of spatial processing workflows and geospatial data engineering best practices.
- Experience consuming and publishing geospatial data via RESTful and OGC-compliant APIs.
- Extensive experience with open-source geospatial technologies, including GDAL, QGIS and OpenLayers.
- Strong software engineering skills with experience in Python, SQL and cloud-native development.
- Experience optimising spatial datasets and services for performance, scalability and reliability.
- Good understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) and modern data architectures.
- Experience contributing to solution architecture, technical standards, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of version control, DevOps practices and modern engineering principles.
