Job Opportunity: Geomatics Officer

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our growing Geomatics department as a Geomatics Officer on a full-time, permanent basis. The post holder will work independently mostly in the office. They will ensure the quality assurance of digital field survey data and will provide survey support to all departments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the successful and safe conduct of digital field survey, preparation of initial site data, field survey data capture, and their subsequent quality assurance.
- Ensure appropriate configuration, maintenance, and security of field survey equipment.
- Ensure the quality of field survey data and digitising from creation to completion, including the appropriateness of the final product.
- Carry out field survey and other on-site data collection tasks where appropriate.
- Ensure the successful digitisation of drawn site records, and manipulation and presentation of archaeological data, using CAD, GIS, or other appropriate geospatial software.
- Undertake tasks using ESRI software (ArcGIS Pro), including geoprocessing, querying, and publishing GIS and web map services.
- Contribute in the organisation and conduct of staff training programmes, with particular responsibility for developing survey, GIS, and CAD skills within the organisation.
- Undertake hiring of equipment, including completion of purchase orders and communications with external hire companies.
- Actively participate in the implementation and organisation of instrument allocation to staff and projects.
- Carry out such other duties commensurate with responsibilities as may be determined from time to time.
- Implement all relevant Cotswold Archaeology policies.
- Be aware of and observe all relevant Fire and Health & Safety Regulations and follow safe-working requirements set out in Risk Assessment and other project-specific documents.

Person Specification
Essential
- Degree or post-graduate qualification in Archaeology (or relevant subject)
- Sufficient experience as a field archaeologist on evaluations, watching briefs, and excavations
- Considerable understanding of the principles of archaeological survey
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of ESRI software packages, in particular proficiency in using ArcGIS Pro
- Methodological approach to working and meeting deadlines
- Considerable experience of archaeological field survey using GNSS and Total Stations instruments (preferably Leica) and the handling and manipulation of field survey data
- Capable of providing clear descriptions of observations and interpretations made in the conduct of archaeological survey work
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access)
- Commitment to the professional standards of archaeology
- Ability to work on their own initiative and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to commit to away work and occasional overnight stays

Desirable
- Sufficient experience of providing teaching/training/mentoring to a variety of participants
- Sufficient experience in contributing to wider project reports/publications, research projects, outreach projects
- Sufficient experience of photography and photogrammetry
- Sufficient experience of archaeological building and earthwork survey
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot Leica GNSS and Total Station instruments
- Experience of remote data capture systems including terrestrial and airborne solutions
- Experience with JavaScript, Python, LISP, and ModelBuilder
- Experience of manipulating digitised and field survey data during post-excavation work
- Familiarity with other drawing packages, such as Adobe Illustrator
- CSCS card
