The Vacancy
Binnies are recruiting Geomorphologist/Hydromorphologists into our growing multi-disciplinary Environmental Services team. Binnies is a world-leader in the Water and Flood Risk Management sector delivering exciting projects for clients including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Local Authorities and Water Utility Companies. Our team also works on other large infrastructure projects across multiple sectors including water, transport and renewable power. The geomorphology discipline sits within the Catchments and Natural Capital team, a part of Environmental Services, alongside water quality and natural capital specialists to deliver sustainable management of catchments and support the design and delivery of nature-based solutions and infrastructure development.
This role supports our growing portfolio of water and catchment work, including working with the Solutions By Nature team who design, develop and deliver environmental solutions that build lasting resilience in the natural world. This offers the chance to be a pivotal part of river restoration schemes, seeing project through from feasibility to delivery.
We are happy to welcome you into one of our offices in Redhill, Bradford on Avon, Swansea, Birmingham or Chester but we are open to candidates from across the country and can discuss flexible working.
We are a close team and have active Environmental Communities of Practice, including for our Water and Catchments professionals. Binnies pride ourselves on being at the forefront of environmental best practice and innovation and our environmental consultants are empowered to work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams and shape projects to deliver smarter and more sustainable solutions. Binnies hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark which is a benchmark of our high standards in EIA delivery and is also a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute).
About the Role:
- Leading on geomorphology surveys, including walkovers, fluvial audits and site-specific surveys
- Production and review of Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments to support environmental assessments.
- Leading on river restoration design development catchment studies and Natural Flood Risk Management projects.
- Support the watercourse element of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including baseline surveys, baseline and post-intervention metric calculations, reporting and habitat management and monitoring plans.
- Lead on the design and delivery of Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) projects.
- Advise on implications for the water environment from engineering designs, as well as development of mitigation and enhancement opportunities
- Liaising with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public as required
- Act as a technical lead on projects, disseminating technical progress of projects to the PM team.
- Contribution to bidding and procuring work.
- Line management responsibilities may be required.

About You:
The role is suitable for an experienced environmental professional with full professional membership (such as CIWEM, IES or IEMA). You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
- An environmental related degree
- Chartered status with a relevant institute.
- Background in fluvial geomorphology/hydromorphology
- Understanding of Water Environment Regulation (WFD) Compliance Assessments
- Experience of catchment management and projects, working with inter-disciplinary teams
- Have an ability to understand and apply analytical tools and models and manage data
- Experience of river restoration/wetland design
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Hold a full UK driving licence
