Octavius Finance is exclusively partnering with a leading global geopolitical advisory firm to appoint a Geopolitical Economist to join its international advisory practice.
This is an opportunity to advise some of the world's largest multinational organisations, financial institutions, and investors on the geopolitical, economic, and policy developments shaping global business.
Rather than producing economic forecasts in isolation, this role sits at the intersection of geopolitics, macroeconomics, and corporate strategy. You will help senior decision-makers understand how geopolitical events, economic policy, and international market developments translate into commercial risk, strategic opportunity, and business decision-making.
Working directly with C-suite executives, boards, and investment leaders, you will provide commercially focused advice on issues ranging from geopolitical conflict and trade policy to industrial strategy, supply chains, sanctions, elections, regulation, and macroeconomic change.
The role combines strategic client advisory with original research and thought leadership, offering the opportunity to influence both client decisions and the firm's intellectual direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise multinational corporates, financial institutions, and investors on geopolitical, macroeconomic, and policy developments affecting global business.
- Analyse how geopolitical events, government policy, and macroeconomic trends impact corporate strategy, investment decisions, and commercial risk.
- Lead and contribute to complex client engagements, presenting directly to senior executives, boards, and investment committees.
- Produce high-quality research including geopolitical assessments, economic analysis, scenario planning, client reports, and thought leadership.
- Develop practical, commercially relevant recommendations rather than purely academic or theoretical analysis.
- Identify emerging geopolitical and macroeconomic themes that will shape client priorities and future research.
- Work collaboratively across regional and sector teams to deliver integrated advice across multiple industries.
- Support business development through proposals, client presentations, and long-term relationship management.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
