About Castle Surveys
Castle Surveys is an independent, multidisciplinary geospatial and land surveying company, headquartered in Ashby de la Zouch with offices in Manchester, London, Cheltenham and Scotland. We deliver everything in-house, with no subcontracting, and work to an ISO 9001 aligned management system.
Our work is genuinely varied. On any given week the team might be scanning a listed building, mapping a motorway corridor, surveying a reservoir bed, tracing buried utilities or setting out a data centre floor. That variety is exactly what makes this a brilliant place to build a surveying career.
The Role
We're looking for a Geospatial Engineering Surveyor to join our team. You'll be the person on site making sure the data is right: establishing control, carrying out topographic surveys, setting out, then processing it all back in the office and delivering clear, accurate results to our clients.
It's a hands on role with real responsibility. You'll work across construction, infrastructure, highways, utilities, heritage and development projects, sometimes as part of a team and sometimes leading small jobs yourself.
And it doesn't stop there. Once you've got the core skills nailed, we'll train you in our specialist areas, so the role can grow with you.
Key Responsibilities
On Site
- Carry out topographic land surveys using total stations, GNSS and levels, capturing detail to the client's specification.
- Establish and maintain survey control networks, including traverses, GNSS control and precise levelling, tied to OS National Grid and Ordnance Datum Newlyn.
- Set out for construction and engineering works, from site grids, piles and foundations to roads, drainage and structures.
- Carry out as-built and monitoring surveys, and check work against design.
- Use 3D laser scanners for measured building and structure surveys, [CONFIRM, e.g. Leica RTC360].
- Plan your own site day: kit checks, calibration records, access and permits.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
