East West Rail is a nationally significant railway project which aims to deliver much-needed transport connections for the vibrant communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. Together these communities contribute around £111 billion to the national economy each year.

EWR is one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, and is being championed by the Government as a key driver to economic growth, leading to a potential £78 Billion boost to the UK economy: supporting new towns, housing, and regeneration.

Role Summary:

Reporting to the GIS Programme Lead, this role will be responsible for managing the life-cycle management of GIS, Survey and CAD data within EWR Digital Delivery Team and to be the Custodian of EWR GIS and Survey data. This role is key to the development of EWR’s Digital Spine which will drive the integration of advanced digital solutions, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to align with EWR’s project objectives and priorities.

What you'll be doing:

  • Ensure GIS solutions and activities align with overall project goals and EWR priorities.
  • Supporting the GIS Programme Lead in creation, management and maintenance of EWR’s data catalogue and application of EWR’s GIS, data & metadata standards to all data held within the CDE (Common Data Environment).
  • Provide cartographic and geospatial support to project teams.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Engineering and Delivery Functions, Environmental, and Land & Property teams, to integrate digital solutions into their workflows.
  • Be familiar with and use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other advanced technologies.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of GIS data throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with external partners and information teams to ensure seamless integration of GIS solutions and data sharing.

What you'll bring:

Skills:

  • Ability to manage CAD data formats including: dwg, dgn, rvt, iFC.
  • Ability to manage geospatial data formats including: ECW, GeoTIFF, DTM/DSM: XYX, ACSII

Experience:

  • Configuration and maintenance of ESRI GIS Portals (e.g., ArcGIS Pro and On-line)
  • Use of standard GIS protocols including: WMS, WFS, WMTS, WPS, WCS, CSW
  • Experience of working in ISO 19650-compliant environments and integrating GIS with BIM workflows and Common Data Environments. [VW1.1]
  • Broad experience of specifying, planning and performing data management activities on a major programme working as part of a regulated organisation with multiple complex interfaces.
  • Experience of data set specification and design, including interface definition and management and control of same on a multi-disciplinary programme.
  • Integration of CAD and GIS data to produce 3D visualisation, VR and AR solutions.
  • Use of ETL tools and technologies.
  • Use of industry standard interchange methods e.g. RESTful Web Service protocols.
  • Experience of engaging with peers and stakeholders.
  • Change management, rapidly adapting to emerging requirements, changing circumstances and high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity in a fast-changing environment.
  • Working within relevant UK rail industry legislation and standards.

Knowledge:

  • Good working knowledge of metadata standards.
  • Good knowledge of working with FME and Python.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
  • Good knowledge of setting up and managing spatial database engines (SDEs) utilising Postgres.
  • Excellent communication with the ability to promote and execute digital delivery strategies and plans.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • UK rail industry and/or capital programme knowledge and experience is an advantage.
